Super Organizer Sunday – Music and Organizing

In the beginning and set up stages, I need to concentrate and put together the plan to edit and organize a space, but once that is established..bring on the music.

I love music! I am a recording artist too! Music motivates me and helps me continue in the process. The right kind of music can also make the tedious tasks a little more bareable. It doesn’t matter what kind of music, that is up to you!

Try it while you are going thru a junk drawer or cleaning out a pantry! Its fun!

And under shameless self promotion, maybe my new album Salty Clouds and Sunflower Dreams may provide a good soundtrack to you….or my organizing song with Chog, Running Smoothly!

Super Organizer Sunday- Four Books I’m Reading Right Now!

I LOVE TO READ!!!!! I have always loved to read! I have a vivid imagination and I am open to being taken to places outside of my life! My parents were readers so there were books in the house. And we were encouraged to read as children. That has carried into my adulthood. I like many different genres. I like non-fiction and fiction. So the problem i have is that I can’t read just ONE book at a time. I read SEVERAL books at ONE time. Actually here’s how it works. I have about 4 to 6 books that i want to read. And it just depends on my mood as to which book I pick up. I read that book until I am tired of reading it. I do that with each book. The pacing is different with each one so at some point i’ll finish a book. Then I am down to 3 to 5 books. Then sometimes i’ll pick another book and put it into rotation. Most times each book is vastly different from the other. I need my variety. With that said, here are the four books i’m reading right now:

1- Fork On The Left, Knife In the Back by Michael Musto. So far its hilarious! The New York Village Voice pop cultural columnist has a way with words and I’m loving reading about celebrities!

2- Pat Loud A Woman’s Story by Pat Loud with Nora Johnson. It was HARD for me to find this out of print book but i did! Pat Loud is the Great Grandmother of Reality TV. An American Family on PBS aired in 1973 and there was NOTHING like it on TV before! My mother talks about being glued to the TV set and watching this “weird” show. Pat Loud’s marriage fell apart before America’s eyes and she visited her son Lance in NYC and viewers were treated to his “alternative” lifestyle. The book is a fascinating account (so far) of her journey.

3- Prairie Tale by Melissa Gilbert. From little Laura on Little House On The Prairie to SAG President and everything in between! SO far its a really candid take on her life. She has been giving great backstage stories and insights. You are transported back in time to each situation she describes. I just read about how sister (Roseanne and The Talk star) Sara got her name!

4- The Walking Dead Compendium One by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Tony Moore, Cliff Rathburn. It’s my first graphic novel! My brother give it to me as a gift. I LOVE the show! Its REALLY thick and a big book. I just started it!

Super Organizer Sunday- I Can Juggle Lemons

Hello! This is the first of many blog posts that I will be writing from time to time where I give you a little insight into ME. I hope you enjoy.

I’m James Lott, Jr, The Super Organizer and I can juggle lemons. I can juggle limes. I can juggle oranges, apple, small balls, napkin rings but I haven’t mastered bananas. Dang it! I learned how to juggle when I was 10 years old. My cousin Lee from Seattle was in town (Los Angeles) and one day in my front yard she was showing me and a few our cousins how to juggle. We had a lemon tree, so lemons were part of the demonstration. I was fascinated that she could do it. I really wanted to get it! (My personality has always been that if there is something i want to accomplish, I’m all in and will accomplish it!)  To my surprise, I picked it up quickly!

Being able to juggle is fun at kids parties. It can break up a tense situation between a group of friends. It’s kind of ego boosting to see people amazed that you can do it! It also represents how I am in my regular every day life! I am a master of being able to juggle several things at once. Many times in my life I had 2 or 3 jobs at the same time. (I lived in SF in the 90’s and it was expensive there!) Never a problem for me. I made it to each job on time and ready to work. I juggle several sets of friends! I have sets of friends for different aspects of my life. I have my “going out” friends. I have my dinner party friends. I have buddies who like to watch and talk about Football (Go Steelers!). None of it is a bother for me.

Today being the Super Organizer and running a small business. I have to be a bunch of different roles. I am the CEO as well as the accountant, marketer, sales, social media director, copy editor, life coach, and organizer! Yes on some days it gets to be a little much. Some weeks I am not as efficient as I am on other weeks. And to be honest, I enjoy some of the roles more than others. Cyndi Lauper has a saying that “It’s the struggle of the juggle sometimes.”  BUT in the big picture I make it work and it comes natural to me. AND I love it! I love being the hyphenate!!
