Sort Out Sunday: Go to Your Kitchen Right NOW!!!!

Image result for messy kitchens

Ok Peeps! the Kitchen is a clutter zone!! It is also a place where things go to live but are never seen or used again!! SO today’s challenge to you is to:

Go to your kitchen and pick THREE things you haven’t used in the last six months…

Then look at those three things and ask yourself will you ever use them within the next six months.

I don’t count fire extinguishers and batteries and candles but if you have a lot of scrubbing pads and you don’t scrub anything, its time to take them out!

Of those three things are any of them trash? then throw it out

Are any of them old and chipped and stained, you get the picture…then throw it out

New or unopened items? give them away either as a present or thrift store or to a friend who might need it.

Or just simply items in decent condition just not used? get them out of the house and given away!

Try this exercise ONCE a week! progress will be made!

One Way To Organize Kitchen Cabinets

20140519_140407

There are many ways to organize a kitchen, but here is one way:

If you have another room you can put stuff in ( a dining room table is good, or put down a sheet to place items on), then take everything out of the cabinets and place in the other room. Put like minded things together. All food in one place, all cups in one place, all glasses in another, etc.. As you are doing it, look at the food items expiration dates. If the food item is expired, then throw out immediately (have large, heavy trash bags handy). If a glass is broke or cracked, throw it out. If you don’t have a full set of dishes, set aside to give away.

Once you got everything out, you can see WHAT you have and how it will fit back in to your space. AND it will be easier for you to look at your kitchen space and decide how you want the cabinets to be filled. My recommendation, all food and spices in one area and easy to get to. And all glasses and plates in one area and easy to get to. And all pots and pans in one spot. I would do food higher and pots and pans lower. Glasses and plates eye level.

Super Tip Thursday- A Way To Organize Your Canned Goods

canrack

I first saw these on TV and then suggested them for a client and she loves them. What I am talking about is the Organize It All 1866W-1 Can Storage Rack in Chrome. My clients pantry looks great because of this product. Store a variety of can sizes with this multipurpose canned food storage rack. Keep your countertop or cabinets clutter-free using this metal storage rack. And you clearly see what you have! You will know when you are running out. Also it is good for rotation of items. Helps with keeping track of expiration dates, which I’ve talked about in an earlier blog post.

Mind you there are plastic ones out there, but I LIKE the chrome one better. You can find them at many retailers and online. Here are few place you can find this: Home Depot, Linens n Things, Kohls. Prices range from $30.00 to $65.00.

Super Tip Thursday- Clean The Kitchen EVERY Night

messy messy kitchen

Kitchens can become one of the messiest and most unorganized rooms in a house. Once you get the kitchen organized, I have a strong suggestion:

Every night, without fail, clean the kitchen.

Stay on top of making sure that the kitchen stays clean. Put away the dishes, load the final dishwasher load of the day, wipe off counters, and polish up the sink.  After each meal or time in the kitchen, clean up and put away what you used. There is nothing like waking up to a clean kitchen to make your day feel less overwhelming from the start.

8 Questions To Ask When Looking At Your Kitchen

1111

I love organizing kitchens! Kitchens are one of my favorite rooms in a house. I’m in my own kitchen a lot. I love to cook. Kitchens (much like bathrooms) are mainly set up and used as a functional space. What’s interesting is that many people hate the way their kitchens are set up! “I don’t have enough space.” ” My pans are stored so far away from the stove.” ” I have dishes over here and glasses are over there.” All the cabinets, the drawers, the counter space, the appliances…so much to think about and look at. I believe that an organized kitchen makes life so much easier for the person in the room. These are eight question to ask when looking at your kitchen space:

  1. Are the cabinets and/or drawers cluttered or jammed?
  2. Is the counter space full and cluttered?
  3. Are there storage issues?
  4. Are there items that don’t belong in the kitchen?
  5. Are like items grouped together?
  6. Is the space set up in a way that is efficient for you?
  7. Are there things you are NOT being able to do in this space? (i.e. not enough counter space to chop onions.)
  8. How would you like to see this space set up overall?

Super Tip Tuesday: I Can’t Find The Top Ramen

20140303-104918.jpg

I’m here to give you suggestions on how to make your life easier, so here’s todays tip and its involves your Kitchen Pantry or Kitchen cabinets where you store your food.

Organize areas and/or shelves by types of food such as cereals, pastas, soups, and spices. Group like things together and store them that way. Its makes things a lot easier to find AND it looks nice. (Some people label shelves, but that’s not always necessary.)
