Bed Bugs have been getting a lot of attention in the media and there are articles written on checking for bed bugs before you get settled in your hotel room. Much has been written about how “clean” hotel rooms are or aren’t. I did a test once at a hotel I stayed at for a week. I put two peanuts on the floor by the bed against the wall. I’d come back to my room each day and it “looked” clean. beds were made. New towels. Counters wiped down. those peanuts were there the whole time. In fact those peanuts were there after I left. Advice has been given to people about actually using the safes that are in the room. I do. All of those things are important but there is one thing I want you to think about before you touch that TV remote in your hotel room: how germy is it?
I always wonder if the TV remote is ever whipped off and is part of the cleaning ritual. I doubt that it is! I was staying at a 4 star hotel recently and I went to pick up the remote and it felt crusty on the underside. Ewww. That reminded me of being at another hotel where the remote didn’t have a back cover, it was taped up so the that the batteries stayed in. Think about it. I did. It’s such a small thing but really think about it! Say an average of two people stay in the same room about every two to three days. Are they hand washers? Do they have a cold? Are kids with food stained hands touching it? I don’t know. And neither do you!
So I suggest that you bring your own sanitizer/disinfectant spray to wipe/spray down the remote first .I’m not saying bring the giant spray can of Lysol. I get the ones that are small and compact and fit in a bag or purse. You can go to the store and look in the travel size goods sections and find them. You can use hand sanitizer. Whatever to at least get some of the germs off.
